REVIEW:
I found We Were Liars a book I couldn’t put down. Filled with the ease of summer time but with all the tension and uncertainty that comes with loving something too much – whether that be family, money or a boy. Oh, and lying sometimes isn't the worse thing we can do.

When you read the book, there is a looming feeling, you want to trust the book and you love the book but there is always something unexplained – confusing at first but you go with it and it all makes sense in the end. It was a great reading experience if I do say so myself. The chapters are fast-paced and sometimes it’s hard to really understand what you should feel in that given moment. The main character Cadence can be a little irritating at times but there are reasons when everyone is lying to you.

So here is a little summary, it hints a few plots but for the majority of it I tried to go around the big bombs, enjoy!

~

Cadence Sinclair Eastman comes from a family of old money. Every summer on her grandfather’s grand island, Cadence gets to spend a couple of months with her family. This is tradition and this is what family is to her: taking the motorboat for a ride to the Vineyard or to the small town for some homemade fudge, swimming in the water basking in the sun, kayaking, making fun of the odd traditions her grandfather insists upon. It does not matter that her mom and dad divorced, it does not matter that the boy she falls in love with her grandfather disproves of, and it does not matter that all her aunts including her own mom are vying for her grandfather’s money.

Cadence lives in Vermont with only her mom after her father divorced her mother and moved to Colorado. Every year, since she was born, she spends the summer on her grandfather’s beautiful island where each of her granddads daughters has a house. Cadence doesn’t relish in the grandiose houses or the staff that cooks and cleans after her, she looks forward to being reunited with her cousins Jonathan and Mirren – oh and Jonathan’s family friend Gat. Besides the summers – they don’t see each other. So, the time is precious to them four – they call themselves the Liars. But as they grow older, the more they realize how ‘family’ doesn’t mean tradition and love.

Private Island, Four Teens, One Beautiful Catastrophe.

I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars.
The writing style was a little sporadic to me sometimes
